Located within easy walking distance of McMurdo Station, on what is called "Hut Point", is the hut built by Robert Falcon Scott and company. Scott led the 1901-04 British Antarctic Expedition using the vessel "Discovery" as his base. The vessel was frozen into the ice at McMurdo for 2 winters while Scott and his men explored the region using dog sleds.
